In September, Strathalbyn comes alive with the Lakes Challenge Aussie Bush Festival bringing Australian history to life with a three day experience of the Aussie bush spirit in action.
A unique blend of action packed horse and rider bush skills with whip cracking entertainment, music festival, kids activities, visitor competitions and more. Highlights include The Country Lane Market, Southern Star Talent Showcase, Drover’s Campfire, Farmer’s and Gumnut Challenges, Billy Boiling comp, face painting, historical displays and demos and, of course, horses – big ones, little ones, fast and slow ones.
The Lower Lakes Stockman’s Challenge sees over 60 competitors ranging from some of Australia’s best and most experienced to some up-and-coming Junior riders competing in six events over two days with awe-inspiring action in the Finals on Sunday. The Preliminary Events include Bareback Obstacle, Cattle Handling, Jump Challenge, Horse Shoeing, Whip Crack Course and Pack Horse.
Competition events start daily around 8am.
On Saturday all riders will compete in the Cross Country event from 2pm. Challenge Finalists are announced Saturday night followed by the Calcutta Auction. Sunday is Finals day with non-stop action on the Main Arena.
